We partner with First Nations community-driven initiatives that:

1. Centre young people

We partner with initiatives that centre the voices, aspirations and lived experiences of young people. This includes initiatives driven by, or working in deep and meaningful collaboration with young people.

2. Hold cultural governance & intersectionality

We partner with initiatives that have strong cultural governance and intersectional strategies. This means practices that are collective, culturally-grounded, and affirm our multiple and diverse lived experiences as First Nations people.

3. Centre regenerative & intergenerational practices

We partner with initiatives that focus on regenerative and intergenerational practices. This includes initiatives that prioritise the transmission of knowledge, maintenance of culture and wellbeing of Country for future generations.

4. Are experiencing difficulty in accessing resources

We prioritise initiatives that are not able to meet their needs or fulfil their aspirations due to economic barriers, inaccessibility, discrimination and/or inequity.

Our impact framework

Our impact framework is a values-based framework which guides us in understanding our impact, how we operate and who we build partnership with. It was co-created over a 12 month period through a series of workshops with First Nations Elders, community leaders and young people.

The framework embeds four different cultural domains - weaving in cultural values, ethics of custodianship and community priorities that are demonstrated across different systems and scales. It also references the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Framework (Gee, Dudgeon, Schultz, Hart, and Kelly, 2013). Our impact framework operates as a vessel for First Nations Futures and our partners to tell our stories of impact across the four cultural domains:

Relationality

Supporting strong, healthy and collaborative relationships, investing in our future generations, and centering the voices of young people.

Reciprocity

Strengthening reciprocity, creating equity, keeping balance and building movements that push towards economic justice and self-determination.

Restructure

Supporting place-based responses, strong cultural governance, and intersectional practices which respond to the needs and priorities of First Nations people.

Regeneration

Centering regenerative practices and intergenerational systems which support the health and wellbeing of culture, language, heritage, kinship, community and Country.

Our long-term strategies

Long-term and unrestricted funding

We resource our partners through creating opportunities for long-term and unrestricted funding. It is important that our partners have the autonomy and flexibility to implement strategies and solutions which respond to their needs and priorities.

Relationship and network building

We support our partners through strengthening relationships and capacity. We aim to create opportunities for knowledge exchange, access to networks, and other funding pathways within the philanthropic space.

Advocacy and narrative change

We see advocacy and campaigning as a major part in creating systems change. Through the implementation of narrative change strategies, we aim to influence the space of philanthropy and platform First Nations voices, knowledges and processes.

Community-led evaluation

We apply culturally-grounded and community-led evaluation frameworks that centre First Nations knowledges, lived experiences, and data sovereignty. This means responding to and being informed by how our partners want to measure their impact and share their stories.
